28th June 2020 | Suffering and Service

Hi ICF family,

We’re so glad you could join us for our online service today. Despite still not being authorized to meet for traditional church, we hope you’ve been able to receive spiritual food and virtual fellowship from our online services and Zoom calls.

We’ll be having Communion later on during the service, so if you haven't already done so, please get some bread and grape juice or wine ready so you can follow along with Pastor Andrew as he leads us.

During our Coffee & Conversation Zoom gathering we'd like to hear from you. We'll ask if you have any tips or examples about what's been helpful for coping with our new life here with Covid-19. We'll invite you to ask your questions about whatever you need to know and to share any concerns you may have as well.

🔹 Discussion questions:
Our ‘Hot Topic ‘ today is ‘Suffering and Service’.
Please read Matthew 24:1-14 (or all of Matthew 24) & 2 Peter 3:8-22.

Reflect on the comfort and confidence these passages give us about both the present and the future. We should not be surprised about the mess our world is in, nor should we be afraid or lose hope, for God is in sovereign control.

1) In Matthew 24:1-14 Jesus urges the disciples not to be surprised at the troubles to come. They are signs of the end of the age but that ‘the end’ has not yet come. Even Jesus doesn’t know when that will be (verse 36). Are you surprised at the state of the world – even apart from Covid-19? Jesus says we shouldn’t be surprised. That is how things are in ‘the last days’.

2) 2 Peter 3:8-14 speaks of ‘the end’ as well. Peter reminds us that we are not to be afraid either now or then. We, in Christ, are those who are to live ‘holy and godly lives’ (v.11). In that case, as Christians, we will be ‘found spotless, blameless and at peace with him’. You need not be afraid either now or then.

3) In 2 Peter 3:8-22 we are reminded not to lose hope. See if you can find how many times Peter tells us to ‘look forward’. What are you looking forward to? What have we to look forward to (v.13)?

Pray with thanks for all that God has done for us in Christ and for all that we have to look forward to in Jesus.

🔹 Promises
🔹 Benediction // Let the message about Christ, in all its richness, fill your lives. Teach and counsel each other with all the wisdom he gives. Sing psalms and hymns and spiritual songs to God with thankful hearts. And whatever you do or say, do it as a representative of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks through him to God the Father. " Colossians 3:16-17 (NLT)

21st June 2020 | Race Relations

Hi ICF family,

Thanks for joining us today for our online service! A very happy Father’s Day to all the amazing dads, granddads, father figures and spiritual dads in your life. We hope you’re finding ways to honour and appreciate them.

We would also love to know what has been the highlight of your week - what is something that has really encouraged you lately? Let us know in the comments when we go live at 10.00am!

Today is the start of our new series on ‘Hot Topics’ that focus on some of the pressing issues we as Christians face today. Pastor Andrew will be starting off with a message on ‘Race Relations’ and we hope it will both encourage and challenge you.

Finally, we also would love to see you at our Coffee & Conversation Zoom gathering at 10.45am after this service.

Please use the outline below in your own time, and see you at 10.00am.

[ A special thank you to Jen, Asha, Ty and Shazia for being involved in our service today. ]

🔹 Discussion questions: This reflection on our passages and topic for today is a little different. It’s shorter but it does challenge you to work out what you may need to change and to do it.
Our topic today is ‘Race Relations’ and yes it is prompted by the recent death of George Floyd in the United States. Here’s what I suggest you do.
1) Read John 3:14-16, Galatians 6:9-10 and Luke 10:25-37.
2) Now ask yourself ‘what good can I do today and every day for whoever comes across my path?’
3) Now do it.

🔹 Your Grace is Enough
🔹 Benediction // May the Christ who walks on wounded feet
walk with you on the road.
May the Christ who serves with wounded hands
stretch out your hands to serve.
May the Christ who loves with a wounded heart
open your eyes to love.
May you see the face of Christ in everyone you meet,
And may everyone you meet see the face of Christ in you.
Amen.

14th June 2020 | A New Creation

Hi ICF family,

It's great to have you here today! Thank you so much for watching whether near or far and we pray you are blessed by our service today. This service brings us to the close of our 'Freedom o̶f̶  from Religion' series based on Galatians and next week we will be picking up with a new theme so don't forget to join us then as well.

We also recognize that the last 2 weeks have been a challenging time around the world but especially for America, and we want to support those who have been affected by it. Early in our service is a video that highlights the many emotions surrounding these times and we hope that it will encourage you. Our diversity is part of what makes us ICF and through any circumstance, we are still one family in Christ.

If you ever need some pastoral care please reach out to Pastor Andrew or send us a message on Facebook/email and we will put you in touch with him.

Finally, we also would love to see you at our Coffee & Conversation Zoom gathering at 10.45am after this service.

Please use the outline below in your own time, and see you at 10.00am.

[ A special thank you to Evan, Keona, Yoshua, Susan, Wee Teck, Jen, Asha and Ty for being involved in our service today. ]

🔹 Discussion questions: A New Creation (Galatians 6:11-18)

What do you boast about?
Not all boasting is bad – it depends what and who you are boasting about!

1) Read through Galatians 6:11-18.
2) What and who is Paul boasting ‘in’ or about?
3) We often boast about the things we think are important. What is most important, or what really ‘counts’ as significant to you?
4) What ‘counted’ or mattered to Paul (v.15)?
5) What is this New Creation? (see 2 Corinthians 5:16-19)

Give thanks to God in prayer for his mercy and grace in Jesus and that you are a New Creation in Jesus.

🔹 This I Believe (The Creed)
🔹 Benediction // May God, who gives this patience and encouragement, help you live in complete harmony with each other, as is fitting for followers of Christ Jesus. Then all of you can join together with one voice, giving praise and glory to God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ.
- Romans 15:5-6 (NLT)

Hi ICF family,

We're so glad you could join us today as we spend time listening to God's Word and worshipping Him together.

We can’t quite believe it’s already ‘summer’. Our Home Groups and Youth Group will still be continuing online over the summer, and we expect to keep on going with our online services for now. We also want to recognize our high school seniors who recently graduated! Please pray for them as they take on the challenge of new beginnings and new adventures.

Finally, we also would love to see you at our Coffee & Conversation Zoom gathering at 10.45am after this service.

Please use the outline below in your own time, and see you at 10.00am.

[ A special thank you to Christina A., Alexander, Milet, Tim G., Jen, Yoshua and Asha for helping in the various parts of our service today. ]

🔹 Discussion questions
D̶o̶-̶g̶o̶o̶d̶e̶r̶s̶ – Doers of Good (Galatians 6:1-10)
The word ‘do-gooder’ is usually used to dismissively describe someone who naively and probably self-righteously does something they believe to be helpful but which isn’t. They often appear to think they are morally superior and may actually be unhelpful.
Have you ever been ‘helped’ by someone you would describe as a ‘do-gooder’?
Read Galatians 6:6-10.
In these verses Paul is speaking to Christians and he’s urging them to be genuinely caring, helpful and generous. We are to DO good, not just BE good.
1) Can you think of a situation (recently?) where you’ve seen someone genuinely Do good?
2) What would you say is the difference between a ‘do-gooder’ and someone who does good?
3) In what ways does Paul urge us as Christians to Do good in verses 1-5 and then verses 6-10?
4) Read Galatians 6:1-5. In these verses what attitudes are we to cultivate in doing good?
5) How can we grow in doing good (see verses 7-9 and note the repeated words)?
6) Who should we do good to (notice that we have a special responsibility to do good to some people)?
7) What good will you do this week (you can pray and think about it and plan to do it!)?

🔹 Let Your Kingdom Come
🔹 Benediction // May you live this day compassionate of heart, gentle in word, gracious in awareness, courageous in thought, generous in love. (John O’Donohue)
