🔹 Discussion questions
The Fruit of the Spirit (Galatians 5:22-26)

Galatians 5:16-26 is full of encouragement and challenge to ‘live ‘By the Spirit’.
1) Read Galatians 5:22-26.
2) Fruit grows naturally on fruit trees. Who is supposed to be producing spiritual fruit as a natural outcome of having spiritual life?
3) Are you aware of spiritual growth (fruit) in your own life or the life of other Christians? Can you describe that growth? Make the effort to encourage another Christian brother or sister by telling them how you’ve seen them grow over the last months or years.
4) Also, has anyone shared with you how they’ve seen you grow and are you aware of the growth of spiritual fruit in your own life?
5) We are to be ‘led by the Spirit’ (that’s something the Holy Spirit does – he leads and we follow). We are also to ‘live by the Spirit’ (v.16) and ‘keep in step with the Spirit’ (v.25) which is something we do. So, fruitful Christian living means being passive on one hand (allowing ourselves to be led by surrendering to the Spirit) and active on the other hand (making the effort to follow or ‘keep in step with’ or ‘walk by’ the Spirit). Pray for both the willingness to let the Holy Spirit lead you and the will to follow Him and give thanks for your growth and other people’s growth and perseverance in faith.

🔹 And Can It Be
🔹 Benediction // Let us embrace the work and wonder of this day with fresh commitment. May we go forward together in the power of the love of God, in the company of Jesus Christ and by the leading of the Holy Spirit. Amen.

24th May 2020 - Live by the Spirit

Hi ICF family,

Thanks for joining us for our online service today! We are grateful for the technology and all that helps us stay connected as an ICF community.

We are continuing with Galatians 5 as Pastor Andrew shares the message, Live by the Spirit. God confronts us with things that are conflicting and hard to deal with. We hope today's message will remind you to listen to God, and take note of things we need to do so that we may experience the freedom that comes when we walk in the Spirit.

Lastly, please do join us for our Coffee & Conversation Zoom gathering at 11.00am after our online service. We'd love to see you and catch up!

Please use the outline below in your own time, and see you at 10.00am.

🔹 Discussion questions
Galatians 5:16-26 is full of encouragement and challenge to ‘live ‘By the Spirit’.

1) Read chapter 5:13 to 26. What are we called to be?
2) How could you summarise what ‘being free’ means (5:14)? Does this fit with your idea of freedom?
3) Living as a free human being means not doing some things (5:17-21) and doing other things (5:22-23). The second set of characteristics in verses 22-23 describe what it means to be free, to live by the Spirit, to have the fruit of the Spirit and to keep in step with or ‘walk’ by the Spirit.
4) This is the hard part for today. It may take you some time to do this well. If that’s the case come back to it a number of times.
- What things in the list in verses 17-21, or other things not listed, do you know you need deal with? Think about this honestly and bring them before God in confession, prayer for the Holy Spirit’s help, and thankfulness for forgiveness.
- What thing in verses 22-23 do you most need help with? Pray for God’s help, by His Holy Spirit, to grow in that fruit of the Spirit.
5) Give thanks for your growth and other people’s growth and perseverance in faith. N.B. You would probably do well to ask another trusted sister or brother in Christ to pray for you AND to encourage you by sharing with you how they have seen you grow in Christ likeness in the last year or two.

🔹 In Christ Alone
🔹 Benediction // Finally, brothers, rejoice. Aim for restoration, comfort one another, agree with one another, live in peace; and the God of love and peace will be with you. (2 Corinthians 13:11)

17th May 2020 - Christ Has Truly Set Us Free

Hi ICF family,

We're so glad you could join us for our online service.

Today we are looking at the first part of Galatians 5 in our series 'Freedom from Religion'. We look forward to have Tony sharing today about Paul's passion for the law, what draws us to the law and what freedom looks like.

Please use the outline below in your own time, and see you at 10.00am.

🔹 Discussion questions
The Apostle Paul speaks VERY strongly in Galatians 5:1-15 about keeping on trusting Jesus to save us, rather than our own achievements.

1) Read through verses 1-15 and note the things that surprise or shock you.
2) Paul is adamant that all that counts is ‘faith expressing itself through love’. What does that look like? (if you want some pointers about that read 5:16-26).
3) Sometimes Christians have made the mistake of using our freedom excuse sinfulness (v.13) by concentrating so much on grace that we forget the importance of obedience. How are you tempted to ‘indulge the sinful nature’?
4) Do you know someone who is struggling with life and/or faith? Do you know anyone who might need a friendly face, and encouraging word or a challenge? Is now the time to get in touch with them?

🔹 Your Grace Is Enough
🔹 Benediction // Now to Him who is able to keep you from stumbling, and to make you stand in the presence of His glory blameless with great joy, to the only God our Saviour, through Jesus Christ our Lord, be glory, majesty, dominion and authority, before all time and now and forever. Amen. (Jude 24-25)

10th May 2020 - Two Women-Two Mothers

Hi ICF family,

Welcome to our Sunday service and Happy Mother's Day!

We hope that wherever you may be, you're finding ways to honour and appreciate the mothers in your life.

At the beginning of today's Bible reflection, we would love for you to comment on what you're thankful for about your mother, grandmother, the mother of your children or perhaps even a woman you regard as your spiritual mother.

Today we are looking at the second part of Galatians 4 in our series, 'Freedom from Religion'. The reflection today will help us know spiritually who our mother is, to identify our spiritual heritage and how we can pass that heritage on.

Please use the outline below in your own time, and see you at 10.00am.

[ A special thank you to Jen, Asha, Christoph, Eddie and Christina A. for helping with our service today! ]

🔹 Discussion questions:
Read Galatians 4:21-31.
If you were to break these verses up into 3 sections, where would you divide them?
Paul uses a historical argument, an allegorical argument and a personal application.

1) Paul reminds us that Abraham had two sons. One mother was a slave woman, the other a free woman. Spiritually speaking, in what ‘way’ were they born?
2) The allegory. An allegorical or figurative explanation isn’t a standard or common approach for understanding the bible. What does Paul say the 2 women represent?
3) In verses 24 -27 which woman is our mother (figuratively speaking)?
4) As Christians we are children of the promise (verses 28-31). Children of the promise will be _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ _ . In contrast to this, what do we inherit (see verses 26, 27 & 28)?

Take a little time to thank God for the freedom and blessings we have from him as part of our inheritance.

🔹 Blessed Be Your Name
🔹 Benediction // Go into your week, knowing that you are embraced by the love of God; a love that is sweeter and more tender than any you have ever known.

3rd May 2020 - No Turning Back

Hi ICF family,

Welcome to our Sunday service! We hope you have had a good week.

It's really important during this time to keep in touch with everybody, so our challenge for you this week is to think of someone in your life whom you want to check in on, and then send them a quick message to see how they're doing.

Kids, we have a challenge for you too! We would love to see the wonderful crafts you've been doing, so take a picture of your craft for this week (find the link to it at the end of this post), or your craft for ANY of the previous Sundays and send it to phnompenhicf@gmail.com - we would love to showcase them at the end of next week's service video.

Today we are looking at the first part of Galatians 4 as we continue our series, 'Freedom from Religion'. In the reflection today, Paul's words to the Galatians challenge us to examine our own Christian faith and come to a clearer understanding of what it means to be a follower of Jesus.

Please use the outline below in your own time, and see you at 10.00am.

[ A special thank you to Christina A., Nigel, Bernard, Jen, Asha and Christoph for helping with our service today - we are grateful for you! ]

🔹 Yet Not I But Through Christ In Me
🔹 Discussion suggestions
Read Galatians 4:8-20.

1) Christian faith is about relationship with God as His children (Galatians 4:9). Can you identify any things that challenge or threaten your relationship with God? What are they?
2) Verse 18 talks about zeal or enthusiasm. What things are good for Christians to be zealous about?
3) Can you name some things you can do to help you stay zealous about loving and serving Jesus? Write them down.
4) Take some time to pray with thanks for God’s kindness to you in Jesus and that you would keep on serving Jesus with enthusiasm. Perhaps you could pray for strength to do those things that will keep you close to Jesus – things like gathering with other Christians, praying and reading the Bible.

🔹 Days of Elijah
🔹 Benediction // Now may our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father, who loved us and by his grace gave us eternal comfort and a wonderful hope, comfort you and strengthen you in every good thing you do and say. (2 Thessalonians 2:16-17, NLT)
